Some weddings stay with you long after you've packed your cameras away, and Georgie and Josh's was definitely one of them.
Set at the beautiful The Carriage Hall in Plumtree, Nottinghamshire, their wedding had everything you could hope for from a summer celebration. Blue skies, sunshine from start to finish, plenty of laughter, emotional moments that had everyone reaching for the tissues, and one of the most beautiful golden hours I've photographed this year.
When Georgie and Josh first got in touch, they told me they wanted their wedding captured naturally. They weren't interested in spending hours away from their guests posing for photographs. Instead, they wanted to enjoy every moment with the people they love while I quietly documented the day as it unfolded.
That's exactly my kind of wedding.
A Relaxed Start to the Day
The morning began at Georgie's sister's house in Nottingham, where the final touches of hair and makeup were coming together in a relaxed, excited atmosphere.
One of the most emotional moments of the entire day happened before anyone had even arrived at The Carriage Hall.
Georgie's dad saw her in her wedding dress for the very first time.
There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
These quiet moments are always some of my favourites to photograph. Nothing is planned or forced—just genuine emotion between the people who matter most.
Meanwhile, over at The Carriage Hall, Josh was exactly as everyone had described him. Relaxed, hilarious and keeping everyone laughing from the moment I arrived. Spending a few minutes with him, his best man and groomsman outside before guests arrived gave us the perfect opportunity for some natural photographs before the day really began.
A Ceremony Full of Emotion
As guests took their seats inside The Carriage Hall, you could feel the excitement building.
Then came one of the moments nobody will forget.
Their beautiful daughter, Ella, walked down the aisle.
The emotion on Josh's face said everything. Watching him become overwhelmed with emotion before Georgie had even entered the room was incredibly special to witness, and one of those moments that reminds me why I love documentary wedding photography so much.
Moments like these simply can't be recreated.
Relaxed Portraits Around The Carriage Hall
After a joyful confetti throw and plenty of time spent celebrating with family and friends, we headed off for a short walk around the beautiful grounds of The Carriage Hall.
One thing Georgie and Josh were really clear about before the wedding was that they didn't want to spend ages away from their guests.
Perfect.
Rather than turning portraits into a photoshoot, we simply wandered around the venue for fifteen minutes, making the most of the beautiful surroundings and allowing plenty of natural moments to unfold along the way.
The Carriage Hall really is a fantastic venue for couples who want relaxed wedding photographs. There are so many lovely little spots just a short walk from the main celebrations, meaning you're never away from your guests for long.
Laughter, Speeches & Summer Sunshine
One of my favourite parts of the day was listening to Josh's speech.
He had the entire room laughing from beginning to end, and photographing everyone's reactions was almost as entertaining as listening to the speech itself.
Throughout the drinks reception there were hugs, conversations, children running around and countless little moments happening everywhere you looked.
These are often the photographs couples tell me become their favourites.
Not because they're perfectly posed, but because they take them straight back to how the day actually felt.
Golden Hour & Evening Celebrations
As the evening sun dropped lower over The Carriage Hall, we slipped away once more for another quick portrait session.
The light was absolutely beautiful.
Warm summer evenings like this don't come around every wedding day, so we made the most of it before heading straight back to the party.
Later in the evening, Georgie changed into her party dress, giving us the perfect excuse to create something completely different.
Armed with a flash and just five minutes outside, we created a collection of modern, editorial-inspired portraits that perfectly rounded off an incredible day.
I love finishing a wedding this way. It gives couples something completely different from the rest of their gallery while only taking a few minutes away from the dance floor.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings at The Carriage Hall
The Carriage Hall continues to be one of my favourite wedding venues in Nottinghamshire.
From the beautiful grounds and stylish interiors to the incredible evening light, it's a venue that works perfectly for relaxed, documentary wedding photography.
